Have you ever heard the popular quote which goes like this, “Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, for they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny?” Well if you look at the quote carefully you will recognize a couple of things.
1. Everything begins with a thought and,
2. I could just sum this all up by saying you will eventually become what you think (please pay close attention to your thought life) OR, You are what you repeatedly do.
With this in mind, it would make sense that we all need to pay close attention to not just the big things but also the little things we do because they all become apart of us - not just the things which are outstanding, but everything we do forms character whether good or bad.
Sometimes we get so caught up evaluating things that are obvious like not stealing, not committing adultery fornication or lusting etc while the sins of doubting, backbiting and envy etc. goes unnoticed.
In another sense, our habits - whether good or bad - not only affects our personal life but also our spiritual walk with God and this is why we need to identify and address not only what seems big to us but also the little things. A few examples of these are slothfulness, indecisiveness, fear, doubt, jealousy, the need for excitement or doing new things and the list goes on.
It is as simple as this. If you suffer with the fear of being rejected by others you may more or likely have the same fear to be rejected for Christ (which is expected). If you doubt yourself continually, you may eventual begin to doubt God's voice, instructions and even his call. If you get bored easily, chances are you probably will become weary of doing something the Lord have entrusted you to do. Do you see where i'm going? While every little habit may not affect every part of your life, please be informed that some definitely will at some point or another. (It would help to evaluate your past also and deal with anything that is still affecting you because our past helps to form our character whether good or bad).
So while you spend time to fix what needs to be fixed in your life, don't ignore the little things because these little things can surface and work against you in the future. Change is a process and as we pay keen attention to the things that needs to change, God will help us as we do our part, if we allow him.
