With all the demands and expectations that life brings with itself, anyone can become confused, deceived or mistaken with what true priorities really entail. This is something that we all need to be mindful of. Our profession, career, education, personal desires, interests and possessions etc. are all important, but at the end of the day we should never forget the real value of God, our family, our marriage and friends.
It is good for anyone to advance or climb the cooperate ladder but if it comes with the price of not being a part of your child's life for example, Would it really worth it?
We may escape the harsh effects of putting things before family or friends, but God on the other hand takes second place in no one's life. He is a jealous God and requires first place only. The irony to all this however is that we need God at the head of our life to take us to where we need to be. Only God knows our beginning from our ending but if we don't give him first place and allow him to take the lead in our lives we will miss out on his plans for us. We desperately need God's leading in our lives but we have to surrender to his way and his will by putting him first.
If anything is taking you away from God, and keeping you out of the life of those who are important to you, it may be a wise decision to take a stand for the things that are really important. Life is short and earthly things are only temporal. Material possessions and earthly gains are vain. They are only for a while and will vanish someday but memories, love and kindness etc lives on. So make time for those you love and make time for those who need you. Make time to be a part of the lives you were meant to impact in a positive way. Make right choices and prioritize wisely always. God bless!
A Timely Thought: Earthly things are temporal, but spiritual things are eternal. Choose the better part. Seek those things which are spiritual and eternal.
"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth" (Col. 3:2).
