Did You Know?
Exploring Matters of the Heart
with Terry-Ann Scott
Well the answers may vary but I have a simple truth I would like to discuss. We can never always see clearly In the midst of a storm or in the midst of struggles, and it is usually in the midst of turmoil this question is asked. If God loves me so much then how could he allow this to happen to me? But if we watch closely the imprints of Christ, if we follow faithfully his footsteps, sooner or later we will be saying thank you Lord instead of why me Lord?
Not all trouble comes from the devil but God will allow trouble to come our way to shake us out of our comfort zone and push us into our destiny. That’s right! Let’s go on a journey for a while. Envision that you are the parent of a child whom you love dearly that did something wrong. Your love for the child provoked you to scold the child because you only want what is best. You are trying to get the bad out of the child but notice what some children will do. The more you scold them the more they run to you for comfort and attention. That should be our attitude towards God as this reflects a similar situation between our maker and us. Let’s look at another example. Mary has a high income job and she is very well capable to meet her needs and move beyond with much cash to spare. It is not God’s Plan for Mary to remain in that job (because he has better for her) so he allows her to get laid off. In the midst of her perplexity she becomes angry, frustrated and confused but then she is also forced to act outside her comfort zone. As she begins to explore new ways of earning a living, she discovers a business idea that later blossoms and blooms into a successful business. Of course if her heart remained in God, she would no longer be asking, “Why me Lord?” but instead she’d be shouting, “Thank you Lord!” If trouble did not come to shake her she would remain an employee of her firm rather than becoming the proud and successful owner of her own business.
The same principle holds true for many situation in our lives. Trials come to make us stronger. It comes to purify us and to make us more pure so that our relationship with God can be deepened. All we have to do is to learn to trust God with our lives because he knows how to prepare us for what he has in store. Have confidence in his word because his word is true. Out of evil comes forth good and his word tells us that “he will work all things together for our good to them that love God and are called according to his purpose”. So the next time you find yourself in a situation where you are tempted to ask why me Lord, just remain close to him and watch him work because he is about to do something great on your behalf. A few months or even a few days later you may be shouting thank you Lord!
(Other reasons that are all obvious from scriptures are: disobedience, curse, impurity due to evil traits that remain within us, we have turned our backs on God, all of which spells SIN). Some of these are discussed in details in my other blogs).
Happy Monday.
