Before I share a few practical ways in which we can find God or get more of him, let me just add, this is a practical and very active issue. Seeking God is not just about knowing the word, but it has everything to do with doing or living out the scriptures. When I began to pursue God, I was prepared to do much seeking through prayer until the Holy Spirit showed me that it is not only in the praying but mainly in the doing. This changed my view and life on a whole as I was pressed for time - no longer able to prostrate for hours before him (you know that much needed alone time where no one is able to interrupt you...no children or the demands of other responsibilities). Not being able to find the lengthy desired time to sacrifice bothered me daily, but I have learnt how to make use of the little time I have and have also discovered ways in which I can be in his presence all day even when not praying.
Here are a few ways I'll share:
1. Develop a Relationship with the Holy Spirit. He is a person so talk to him as much as you want. Tell him everything; what hurts, your struggles, your faults, your desires - do not hold back, he already knows all things and the good thing about it is he understands and is willing to help you.
2. Relationship is strengthened through the word so read lots of it. This is how you get to know and grow. You'll know his heart when you read about him and you gain strength. Whenever you do not have the time to read, choose one verse that has meaning to you and meditate on it. Meditation produces growth. Use your time wisely.
3. Live Out The Word every chance you get. Use each opportunity to share Christ with someone by being nice kind or helpful. Just show some love. When you can take time out of your busy schedule and listen to someone or help in any way, matters much to God. This is how you attract him to you.
4. Never avoid or neglect your responsibilities with the intention of giving that time to God. Know that fulfilling your responsibilities and obligations pleases God. The scripture tells us that and it tells us also to do everything willingly as unto God. Note the word 'willing'. Our spouse, our children, our parents, people, and even our jobs should be treated with high priority and with much importance. Doing the opposite by short living any of these with the aim to Give God more of our time will not be pleasing to him. This is contextual as God will take second place in no one's life. He wants first place and these are some ways in which he will get it. Some things are not of God so if anything is taking all your time and focus away from God it is worth review. Give up what needs to go and whatever you choose to keep remain true to God by remaining true to it according to his word.
5. Keep your mind on God all day and all night. Make this a practice. Do this while singing spiritual songs and hymns when cooking, or washing the dishes, think about where you are now and where he has taken you from while doing your chores, think about all he has done for you while taking care of your children, meditate on his word every moment you get and talk about him and his goodness with your family and friends. Let the mind of Christ dwell within you. The mind of Christ is the word of God. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on him".
6. Make a Sacrifice. Whether to pray more, meditate more or to become more practical in your way of living, make the sacrifice to adjust accordingly and do that which is right no matter what.
When you become consistent no matter what, this pursuit for God is what will produce quality, obvious life changing results.
Dare to be different and stand for God no matter what. After all, you have nothing to loose but self. You'll only find him; adjust now.
