Understanding – A Treasure in Disguise

…And with all your getting, get understanding (Proverbs 4:7).

It is one thing to hear and another to understand. Understanding brings conviction, understanding produces change and understanding reflects in your actions (decisions). It is impossible for you to understand the truth and seriousness of God’s word or anything else and remain the same. For the man that hears and remains the same, understanding was not established in its entirety.

The book of Job says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and to depart from evil is understanding.” If we truly can fathom the reality that for every action there is a consequence - whether good or bad - then many persons would earnestly strive to do what is right at all cost.

A child does not know the serious of a fire until he or she gets burn. Once he or she gets burnt, their understanding will become enlightened as they learn the dangers associated with playing with fire (some will have to get burn more than once before understanding fully).

Many persons today are saved, but are not converted. They are like a Peter, walking with Jesus, but do not truly know Him. My dear brothers and sisters, understanding produces growth and change. Understanding will save us from unnecessary pain and from making unnecessary mistakes. In all your getting, get understanding. Seek the Lord earnestly for understanding. Be blessed.
