DO NOT GET ATTACHED

One of the easiest things to do in life is to get comfortable or to become attached to what we possess and this includes the people around us.

A few months ago, my cat gave birth and I have grown to love her latest additions. She had a ginger and white kitten that I absolutely adored; he was so chubby and full of life. I sat while admiring him as he played with his black and ginger haired brother and my heart was filled with joy.

The following morning I was awaken out of a dream of death and entered into the reality of death. Strange dogs invaded our property and in just seconds, a young cat I grew to love so much was dead. This grieved me so much I asked God why He allowed it to happen. My entire day was ruined and I continued to ask God why, when He finally responded with a profound answer.

His answer was, “You must not become so attached to anything in this life that you do not want to give it up”. I was immediately reminded by His answer that we are not the one in control. We brought nothing into this world and we will leave with nothing. We are not in control to choose what we lose or when we will lose it. This is why our priorities must be checked and rechecked. My reflections brought further clarity that what we posses now in life is truly a blessing and a gift from God. He allows us our experiences, but we must remember, God is in control and only God has the final say in our lives. This is truly a humbling position to fill.

As you continue your journey throughout life keep in mind that we are only strangers passing through. This world is not our home. Be careful how you get attached to the things that mean the most to you. Be grateful and thankful for the things you have and always remember that God is in control.
