WHO DO YOU SAY YOU ARE?

It’s amazing how one’s abilities and status can be defined as one’s self-worth. Many persons are struggling with their self-image in society. There is an identity crisis taking place and this is because people often measure their worth with their achievements.

While success may be had from our academic achievements, it does not define who we are. Our self-worth should never be limited to a degree, a ceremony or our possessions, but instead, who we are as an individual based on our attitude, our character and our morals instilled.

Another word for self-worth is self-esteem. Many persons have lost their identity because they are unable to identify their own worth or value. This is especially true for those who have suffered greatly at the hands of others inducing hurt. This creates a void or missing link and people often try to hide behind a name, a desk, a particular profession, academic achievements, money, success and even material possessions to fill an empty space for being valuable or worthy in society as a result.

In return these individuals can further look down on others who do not match their profile as they continue to struggle in order to fit in.

According to one online dictionary, the term self-esteem is defined as confidence in one's own worth or abilities; self-respect. It can be mind-blowing how people can lose respect for themselves without even knowing. It is also disturbing how people can prey upon others because of their own insecurities by not believing in themselves.

It is natural wanting to make something with your life and it is also natural wanting to become like someone, but we must first learn to never use our own past to judge ourselves and never to compare ourselves and our self-worth to others. This is crucial because at the end of the day if you lose your profession or if things turn in an unexpected direction you will still be left in the valley of decision questioning your own worth.

With this being said, every person here on earth was created for a unique and specific reason. We all were brought here for a purpose and our purposes can be manifested through our God-given talents/skills and abilities. God did not only place us here and leave us to fight for our survival, but He has left His imprints within us for survival when He placed inside of us everything that we could ever need and become.

Our true identity will never be revealed until we begin to do that which we were created to do. True happiness will never be experienced until you begin to do that which you were made to do and true success will only be had when you begin to walk in the path God has ordained you to walk.

Your status, your self-worth and your value is not based on what you possess, neither should it be altered by your past, but who God created you to be. See yourself as someone valuable and precious in the eyes of God and refuse to measure your self-worth by comparing yourself with others and their success. Discover your identity in Christ and esteem yourself.
